A proposed eight-storey apartment and commercial building has some Brockville residents worried about safety and traffic.
At a public meeting Tuesday, nearby residents said the building planned for the corner of King Street West and Home Street is too big for the neighbourhood. The development would replace two parking lots with a tower holding 140 rental units, commercial space and 113 underground parking spots.
The former Dailey’s property has been mostly empty for 25 years and is now used for 60 public parking spots. Developers say the site is underused and ready for growth.
Some residents called the design ugly, comparing it to a prison, and fear the construction could damage nearby homes. Others say it will make traffic worse on narrow streets like Apple and Home.
City staff will review the concerns and return to the planning committee with a recommendation in the coming months.
