Residents in Brockville and Prescott are being warned that severe thunderstorms could develop this afternoon as a sharp cold front moves through the region.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rainfall. The severe thunderstorm watch means storms may develop that could cause damage.
Officials say driving conditions may become difficult if heavy rain develops. Local utility outages are also possible, along with damage to roofs, fences, tree branches and temporary shelters.
Residents are being reminded to take precautions as the storms approach. Emergency officials advise securing loose outdoor objects and seeking shelter indoors when thunder is heard.
“When thunder roars, go indoors,” the agency says, noting lightning causes injuries and deaths in Canada every year.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches and continuing to monitor forecasts and alerts issued by Environment Canada.
