Upgraded experience on the way
The Historic Brockville Railway Tunnel is set to reopen in mid-May, and now we know what we can expect.
The city says there are some exciting upgrades that promise to enhance the visitor experience.
City staff say new features include water-resistant enclosures for electrical equipment, upgraded light fixtures and data systems, protective light covers, and new entrance doors using original hardware.
The one-of-a-kind light and sound tunnel, which stretches under the city and dates back to 1860, is one of Brockville’s most popular attractions. Crews have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the tunnel’s features are protected and updated.
Although the City of Brockville initially announced a May 16 opening, officials say the exact date is still being finalized. Residents and tourists are encouraged to follow the City’s website and social media for updates.
With the new enhancements and its rich history, the tunnel is expected to draw thousands of visitors again this year.
