Think it's safe to vape outdoors? Here’s where it's actually banned this summer

Second hand smoke is no joke

As summer events fill local parks and patios, the South East Health Unit is reminding residents to keep public spaces smoke and vape-free.

Health Promoter Rebecca Shams, says second-hand smoke is still a public health concern—even outside. She says there are other factors too.

Under the act, patios, school grounds and transit shelters are also all smoke-and vape-free. 

Municipalities can go further. Some communities have banned smoking and vaping from all parks, trails, beaches, and public gathering spots, while others have restricted the activities to beyond nine metres of municipal buildings. 

Dr. Linna Li, Deputy Medical Officer of Health says they do their best to get the word out too.

Shams added that workplace vehicles and food trucks are also included in the restrictions. Smoking in a vehicle with anyone under 16 is illegal.
