The official induction ceremony is tonight at 5 p.m.
The Brockville Legion hosted a sold-out crowd for the 32nd Annual Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame Kinsmen Awards Dinner and Banquet last night. Jennifer Roney received the long time coaching award for her involvement in local speed skating, Danny Powers received the long time volunteering award for over two decades in minor soccer, and the Geraghty family was recognized for their volunteering commitment and dedication to local soccer since the late 70s.
From there, the u-15 girls provincial softball champion Johnstown Jewels were voted as the Sports Team of the Year, followed by speeches from the five newest inductees into the sports hall of fame.
These names include: Scott Birnie, seventh round draft pick of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks in 1983, Teri deLuis, a 17-time club champion is women's golf at the Brockville Country Club, Bob Olson, a high-school basketball coach who coached 1,300 games in 32 years, Steve and Anne-Marie Polite, who have given their time and energy to a multitude of sports in the Brockville area for many years, and Jeff Seed, a fastball hitter who was on Team Canada when they defeated the United States in the championship final at the Pan-Am Games in 2003.
To cap off the evening, attendees chose Victoria Ford, a basketball and track and field star at Thousand Islands Secondary School as the Sports Person of the Year.
Ford receives this honour fresh off winning a gold medal in the open girls 4x400m-relay at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships last weekend in St. Catharine's.
Ford said she's looking forward to her next chapter at the University of Toronto in September.
All five inductees and award recipients will be recognized again during the official induction ceremony tonight back at the Legion starting at 5 p.m.
