The identity of the victim has been confirmed, but will not be released out of respect for the family
A person was struck and killed on Highway 401 westbound near Mallorytown early Tuesday morning, July 1. Leeds County OPP say the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. between Mallorytown and Lansdowne.
Police report the victim had exited a parked vehicle on the shoulder of the highway when they were hit by another vehicle. The person died at the scene.
Several agencies responded, including the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit, collision investigators, forensic services, and emergency crews from the Ministry of Transportation, Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service, and the Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Service.
The identity of the victim has been confirmed, but will not be released out of respect for the family. A postmortem is planned.
The highway was closed for several hours for investigation but has since reopened.
