A tractor-trailer crash on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario led to several impaired driving charges after the vehicle left the westbound lanes and landed in a ditch in Augusta Township. Ontario Provincial Police in the Grenville detachment say officers were called to the scene around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Police say the driver, a 39-year-old from Brampton, was not hurt. The person was arrested at the scene and taken to the Brockville Police Service for testing. Investigators later charged the driver with dangerous operation, impaired driving by alcohol, having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood, and carrying liquor that was open or readily available in a vehicle.
The accused has been released and is set to appear in court on Dec. 12. OPP say the driver’s license is suspended for 90 days and the transport truck was impounded for seven days. The vehicle remained in the ditch overnight so it could be safely removed.
