Over time, students are expected to benefit from more academic pathways, research opportunities and work placements
Fleming College and St. Lawrence College announced April 10, they plan to integrate as equal partners, creating a larger and more sustainable institution. The decision comes as Ontario colleges adapt to a new provincial funding model affecting budgets and programs.
Glenn Vollebregt, president and CEO of St. Lawrence College, said he hopes the institution will operate as a new college by next year.
Leaders say the move aims to strengthen long-term stability while protecting current operations.
One of the biggest benefits, Vollebregt said, is the Brockville campus will gain access to new programs through the integration.
Over time, students are expected to see more academic pathways, research opportunities and work placements.
Vollebregt summed up what the integration is all about.
Both college boards approved a framework to guide the transition, including planning and community input, with one leadership team overseeing the future institution.
