Representatives will be visiting Brockville to raise awareness about the program and encourage more families to become hosts
The Canada Homestay Network is looking for more Brockville families to host international high school students as demand for homestay placements continues to grow.
The organization connects students from around the world with local host families while they study in Canada.
Officials say the program helps communities like Brockville benefit from more than $1 billion in economic activity generated by international students across the country.
Gunjan Sinha, Host Capacity Lead with the Canada Homestay Network, said Brockville's location makes it an attractive destination for students from around the world.
Sinha said hosting a student does not come entirely at the family's expense. Host families receive stipends to help cover costs such as food, transportation and other living expenses.
Sinha said representatives will be visiting Brockville to raise awareness about the program and encourage more families to become hosts.
Anyone interested in opening their home to an international student is encouraged to visit: Home - Canada Homestay Network.
