The counties say the expanded services aim to improve winter access to support and housing resources
People experiencing homelessness in Brockville will have access to indoor support services around the clock starting Nov. 1, as two programs expand for the winter.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is opening an overnight warming centre at 10 Church St., operated by Bartimaeus Inc. It will run daily from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. until March 31, offering a supervised indoor space, refreshments and connections to housing support.
A new daytime program operated by Peer Support South East Ontario will open at 189 King St. W., running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Services include peer support, laundry facilities, snacks and evening check-ins for those needing overnight shelter.
The new program replaces the weekday drop-in service at 25 Front Ave., operated by Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health, which will close Nov. 1. Loaves and Fishes will continue serving low-cost meals at that location.
The counties say the expanded services aim to improve winter access to support and housing resources.
