Providing police with detailed information can improve the chances of solving a crime
The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding residents that everyone has a role to play in preventing crime during Crime Prevention Week, which runs until Saturday, November 7.
This year’s theme is “Protecting Ontario Together,” highlighting the importance of police and community members working together to reduce crime.
Const. Michael Fathi, OPP media relations officer, says crime prevention includes everything from residential thefts to online scams and cybercrime.
He encourages residents to take simple steps to protect their homes and vehicles, including locking doors and cars overnight, installing outdoor lighting and using security cameras.
Fathi also warns that older adults can be vulnerable to online fraud and encourages families to check in with relatives about their online activity.
He says community members should report suspicious activity but avoid putting themselves in danger.
He adds that providing police with detailed information can improve the chances of solving a crime.
