Motorists are urged to watch for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, tow operators and others working near traffic
North Grenville Fire Service is reminding drivers to slow down and move over after firefighters responding to a tractor-trailer brake fire on Highway 416 encountered motorists who did not take proper precautions.
The fire service says too few drivers slowed down or moved over while crews worked to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe. It says passing vehicles can create a dangerous environment for firefighters and other emergency personnel.
Drivers approaching stopped emergency vehicles with their lights activated should move over one lane when it is safe to do so. If moving over is not possible, drivers should slow down significantly while passing.
Motorists are urged to watch for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, tow operators and others working near traffic.
The fire service says emergency vehicles may be visible from a distance, but people working around them may not be. It is urging drivers to stay alert and help keep emergency crews safe.
